Never have I spent so much time at home with our dually, Silverado. My four little legs left me unable to ride a bicycle with my family on Austin’s bike-friendly pathways. No worries. I stretched out on the RV sofa and listened to live music wafting from all the bars and restaurants surrounding Pecan Grove RV Park.
In the meantime, my family biked to Barton Springs, Austin’s new Central Public Library, Eeyeore’s Birthday Party at Pease Park, the Pecan Street Festival, the YMCA, Trader Joes and more.
Everyone loved the University of Texas, and my family spent time bowling and playing pool at the Union Underground. The kids did school work at UT’s Student Activities Center and visited the Visual Arts Center. Dad and Julien checked out a UT Orange-White spring football game, while Mom and Audrey were wowed by the UT student fashion show – -the largest student-run show in the nation.
Austin is a music town, and Audrey got to sing and play piano at a local library and a street festival with the Musician’s Woodshed studio. We caught a James McMurtry show at the Shady Grove, and took a couple digital music lessons at the Barton Creek Apple Store.
Other fun activities in the city included my dips in Barton Springs and Campbell’s Hole, Peter Pan Mini golf, the Blanton Musuem of Art, the Bat Bridge at sunset, the Lone Star Riverboat Cruise on Lady Bird Lake, Dart Bowl, Shakespeare in the Park, Comedy at the Barrel O’Fun, watching Cavalier Basketball at Uncle Billy’s Brewery, Trivia at Pinthouse Pizza, and . . . out of town . . . Ski Shores in Lakeview and cliff jumping and paddleboarding at Pace Bend Park.
Tasty nibbles came my way, compliments of Austin’s food trucks, barbeque joints bakeries and yummy restaurants. And, we were so happy that the Biles and the Aikens – – Fulltime Family friends – – were in the area to share some of the fun.
In anticipation of a return to the awesome city of Austin, I plan to invent a pupcycle that will keep me rollin’ around town with the rest of my biking crew.
